Choosing the best wood valorisation compromise : BIOCAL vs Charcoal
Based on a 20% initial moisture content, the torrefaction mass yield amounts to approximately 80%. Moreover, the torrefied material retains 95% of the initial NCV (net calorific value).
Looking at the production of wood charcoal, the carbonisation mass yield reaches 30% in the best case scenario (industrial production).

As a result, even though charcoal’s NCV can be twice as high as BIOCAL’s, the overall yield of wood to charcoal transformation does not exceed 60%, to be compared with 75% in the case of BIOCAL production
